Vistacom Sponsors the Women’s 5K Classic for Nineteenth Year and Forms Team in Memory of Marketing Manager
Allentown, PA, October 8, 2018 – A yearly event for Vistacom took on a special meaning this year. For the 19th consecutive year, Vistacom sponsored the Women’s 5K Classic, an all-volunteer event dedicated to promoting fitness among women and supporting women with Breast & Gynecologic Cancers, of which almost $3 million has been raised and invested in the Lehigh Valley. Vistacom, a Gold Sponsor, donated the sound system and the manpower to set-up and run the equipment during the event. The sound system enables announcements, speeches, and presentations on the main stage, as well as motivational music and announcements across the entire 5K course. A number of Vistacom employees volunteered to assist with this year’s event; however, 2018 would prove to be a much different event than the previous 18 years.
This year, Vistacom also formed a team named “Destiny’s Divas” in memory of Vistacom Marketing Manager, Destiny Heimbecker, who lost her battle to cancer on May 13th of this year. Family, friends, and co-workers of Destiny gathered on Saturday morning sporting teal team shirts (supporting Ovarian Cancer), boas, crowns, and translucent fairy wings in honor of her spirit, as the Destiny’s Divas.
The Morning Call, the leading media company in the Lehigh Valley, PA, recalls Saturday’s event.
Destiny Heimbecker was one of many women whose cancer fight has inspired the thousands who participate in the Women’s Classic 5K, now in its 26th year.
Vistacom’s Software Development Manager, Mark Ripley, has managed the sound system donation for all 19 years. Over 19 years, the sound system has had change and adapt due to a significant increase in the size of the event. Ripley was required to add two additional towers of speaker clusters using wireless transmission to ensure sufficient sound coverage of various event announcements, as well as emergency notifications in case of an emergency, throughout the expansive Lehigh Parkway. Ripley describes his feelings about this year’s special event as,
Emotional. Working with Destiny for so many years on this event left a huge void this year. However, it made the Vistacom team’s mission that much more meaningful this time around. We are extremely proud to support one of the Lehigh Valley’s greatest causes and an organization with such a long-standing history of success in our local area.
