ALLENTOWN, PA: On Friday, January 4, 2002 Vistacom Inc. enabled Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia to videoconference a live surgery workshop as part of the "Global Vision" program in Ahmedabad, India. "Global Vision" strives to bring the most recent techniques in ophthalmic surgery from around the world to India.
The latest in videoconferencing equipment was used to facilitate the two-way audiovisual communication between Philadelphia and Ahmedabad. The live surgeries performed by Ophthalmologists from Wills Eye Hospital, and Ahmedabad, India included cataract surgery, diabetic vitrectomy, trabeculectomy, and corneal transplant. After viewing the six various surgeries, the two areas of the world exchanged surgical techniques.
"Our participation was genuinely fortuitous," stated John Bilodeau, Account Representative for Vistacom. "It gave me a greater insight into the specific applications for this technology at Wills Eye Hospital. Video telemedicine presents great opportunities to the medical field for closer collaboration which will ultimately benefit their patients."
